Teen Challenge is in the process of raising funds for the purchase of a vehicle that will allow counsellors to once more visit clients in their own homes and offer guidance to their whole family. We held our first fundraiser of the year on Saturday March .. this was also the last fundraiser the American missionaries Tony and Christine Rios were involved in!
Our fundraisers are always a labour of love as we still have to keep the Teen Challenge office and programme running while planning and running the fundraiser. Grace sells the majority of the tickets for the car wash while the rest of us go about organising and collecting all the things needed to make the day successful.
This time we held our standard car wash, and sausage sizzle with a second hand clothing sale and a bubble tea station. This was a resounding success as people loved the bubble tea and sausage sizzle. Christine and Davon were on the bubble tea station, keeping the crowds satisfied with their amazing bubble tea. Pauline was on the sausage sizzle station, offering food to those who were waiting for their cars to be washed.
We couldn’t have held it without the help of the clients that come through Teen Challenge, the young boys were really helpful in washing the cars and running around helping out with all the different stations. They also enjoyed being able to look through our second hand clothing and get something nice for them and their families.
At the end of the day it was an amazing fundraiser and the money we raised was able to go towards the fund for a new vehicle for the programme. Our next fundraiser is scheduled to happen in October this year and despite the Rios being absent we hope to continue with the same enthusiasm and achieve the same kind of success.
